Audiences and Institutions

Audiences and Institutions
In relation to the media area you have studied, discuss the ways audience consumption has changed over time.
Over time audience consumption has changed drastically. The shooting business has a major job in the US today. The viewers have had the option to watch movies in an assortment of ways, for example, films, television, and in today’s day, you can even stream a film on a gadget in the palm of your hands. The most significant form of audience consumption is the internet. The internet has an assortment of streaming services for us to have the option to watch any motion pictures we want at any time.
Since the late 1800s, film making has been occurring, according to the National Science and Media Museum, there was an organization named the Edison Company, that effectively made the kinetoscope, which was the principal gadget to show a moving picture. From that point forward a great deal has changed from what we have in today’s day. There are many films in the U.S that have been progressively become more improved, more popular, and more independent. For instance the movie series of Jurassic Park. This worldwide famous film was first created in 1993, it has gone a long way throughout the years when it comes to the distribution. The large company of Universal Pictures has played a big role in this movie, they distributed Jurassic Park for the world to see. A grand way they announced their more recent versions of the movie from the 21st century is by limited edition posters, created by art directors who show this to the media to catch everyone’s attention to watch their film. Trailers are also created to help with distribution on either cinemas, computers, and even phones. Another fascinating way of how the creators of Jurassic Park distributed their film was by creating a fully functioning theme park in Universal Studios. “The fifth film in the “Jurassic” franchise hit $1 billion at the global box office, making it the 35th movie to reach that milestone,” states article Variety.
Another movie who has also changed over time allowing more audience to watch their film is Fast and Furious, this is an action film that had surprisingly been involved in other things like short films, live shows, and theme park attractions. This film, as well as Jurassic Park, was distributed by Universal Studios. Fast and Furious is a series of movies and away all of these movies have been available to the public is because of movie theaters and the television. Once a movie has been out in theaters for about a month or two, it soon moves onto television which further leads on into streaming sites such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and many more. The article Fandom claims this famous series has earned over 5 billion dollars at the worldwide box office in 2017. Over time, the more the movie became popular, the more features they wanted to add for the fans of the movies such as video games, rides, and shows.
When it comes to audience consumption gradually changing over the years the Spider-Man series has the two movies I discussed beat. Spider-Man has had at least 16 films in over 20 years. Some big production companies that chose to work with this movie are Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Studios, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures. “Homecoming‘s investment in marketing was a massive $140 million, which even tops Marvel Studios’ investment of $80 million for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and may even top that of their last film in the franchise, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” asserts MCU Exchange. The 2017 Spider-Man: Homecoming movie made it big, they made it even bigger once the film was able to be played in the comfort of many people’s homes. Thankfully to electronics we can watch the movie on many streaming sites. They released Homecoming on Xfinity for many people to watch since at this point not as many people go out to cinemas in 2020. The hero Spider-Man and his motion pictures have games, rides, merchandise, and a lot more things used to publicize this astounding film for the audience to receive.
The last film that I think has a great impact on today’s film industry and has changed drastically over time is Walt Disney’s Beauty And The Beast. Disney has been creating princess movies since the late 1930s. According to Oldest.org The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released in the Carthay Circle Theater in 1937, ever since the beginning, Disney has been successful in distributing their films on all platforms. Now Beauty And The Beast (2017) can be seen on the famous Disney Plus. “Disney Plus is an on-demand, ad-free streaming service with a growing collection of movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and 20th Century Fox,” claims Business Insider. This streaming site has gotten huge in a few recent months, it is currently simpler for Disney's audience to observe any film like Beauty And The Beast on their television, computer, or phone. This princess movie has been seen by millions ever since it was first announced in 1991, a way the creators of this film can promote their film is by video games, merchandise, soundtracks, posters, and basic advertisements. According to Daily Mail, Walt Disney Pictures gained about 1 billion dollars at the global box office which made it the highest-paid film worldwide in 2017, this shows how much our film industry changed significantly over the years from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs gained about 418.2 million dollars (Oldest.org).
All in all, over time audience consumption, has changed significantly. I for one feel it has improved since now it is so easy to watch one of your preferred movies at home which is as simple as a click of a button. I am excited about what the film business has coming up for future productions and I am sure glad to be taking this course which teaches me so much about this relevant industry we know and love today.

24 Essay Extract

In every movie, the director’s role is to express their vision. The director wants to make every single person watching have a special emotion to their film. The person who created the film, 24 wants to convey to the audience that during stressful moments filled with tension, people will react differently, especially aggressively. Sometimes, when angered people do things they do not mean which results in negative actions. Throughout this extract the director includes the emotion of suspense and now I will go in deeper and explain how camera angles, movements, music, sounds, and Mis En Scene will be used in this film.
In the first scene of film 24, it starts in the location of a interrogation room, in this room there is low/dim lighting. The reason for this the dramatic lighting is to give a sense of mystery as to what is going on in the film or scene. During the first scene there is no sense of dialogue to create curiosity. The beginning scenes introduce the two main characters in the extract, the women that is being interrogated and a man who has authority. The actors is important for a film because its all depending who they are and how they will act making the film interesting to the audience. The women actor is making it seem like she doesn't care, she also seems like she really doesn't know how to act under the pressure of being interrogated. Man actor seems to get aggravated more and more by her responses. Next in the topic of sound, is dialogue. There is no dialogue within the first minute of the extract. I think the reason why the director does this is to first establish what will be going on in this part of the film, like a women is about to be questioned and the man is setting up preparing to speak with her. The woman begins to talk, she has a demanding tone asking him to take her some place so she can set off the bomb. He does not think her idea is the right choice because he claims she is not credible enough yet. Lastly, there is two shot in the beginning scenes. Two shot of the man and woman representing they are the most important people during that time of the film. The actor wants to express the relationship between the two people, in my opinion I think the man worked with the women before but she ended up being a liar and put herself in a bad position.
Now to break apart the second half of the extract I want to discuss the incidental music. The music played in the background really enhanced the atmosphere of the characters in the film, what they were doing, and where they were. The reason for the suspenseful music they included was to give the audience an understanding of what was taking place and what was about to happen, overtime when someone spoke the music became more dramatic to add more of the suspense the director wanted to build. Next we have a type movement the director included which is a wide shot. The reason why the director wanted to include a wide shot and a wide angle between the two characters was to show everything that was going on, to show the full view. They want everything to fit in to show all the details like the chair, the table, the camera, and the door. The director also included multiple editing factors, one that really caught my eye was the split screen. Once the man started getting aggravated with the women’s responses he really held back from putting hands on her because he knew he had eyes on him watching his every move. The man soon became aggressive and started choking the women because he was so angry. The split screen appears of the people watching him running to the interrogation room to take him off her because they need her for information. The purpose for the split screen was to create suspense and to see what is happening on either sides. The last form of editing I want to talk about is jump cut. The director included multiple jumpsuits throughout the whole extract, the reason behind this was to make the audience eager to what was going to happen next. The jump cuts went from the man, to the woman, to the people watching them and back to show what the film was focusing on in that point in time of the extract. Suspense was the main emotion the director wanted to convey throughout the film.
Overall, the director included multiple factors of editing, camera shots and movements, sound, and Mis En Scene which helped establish want he/she wanted to convey. They wanted to show how people don't act correctly under pressure and how people don't know how to act when they are angered, either way it will result into something negative. The director of the film 24, included so many more methods of these things but the mainly wanted to express suspense in this extract and with the power of filming, editing, sounds, and Mis En Scene it worked flawlessly.

My CCR

Here is my CCR, I have had several complications filming and publishing this because the video was so long, sadly it took up post of my storage so I had to delete several things. I worked hard on my CCR so I hope Cambridge enjoys it. Thank you for following along this journey with me.

Commercial Blog

My group mates and I were probably having the most trouble with this commercial because for the longest neither of us could not open it nor access it. We have emailed our teachers and not even they had access to it. Getting to embed this video to blogger was extremely difficult. But thankfully my partner found the clips of it somewhere deep in his google drive and we just had to re edit the whole thing to turn it in on time. Thank you for your time.

The Millionaire Film Blog

This is my final project, The Millionaire. My partner and I put in a lot of hard work for this film. We spent weeks on it trying to perfect it. We are so happy with the results. We hope Cambridge enjoys it as much as we enjoyed creating it. I also want to thank my teachers for helping us create a masterpiece.

Music Video Blog

Here is my music video project that I have created with my group mates. I am thankful that my AICE media class taught us how to make this, we worked so hard on it. Thankfully to embed this it was a smooth and easy process. I learned that while editing there are so many features we can use to make our video as best as we can possibly make it.

Extra Filming Blog

This blog will be a general summary of all of the filming that my group member and I worked on together. I strongly believe my partner and I have worked extremely hard on our filming process even under the difficult circumstances. To start, we had to look for locations. Before this corona out break when we were allowed to go outside and film; we went to two different parks. The first one, there was too many people and we did not want there to be an issue with people being on camera. We arrived to a next park which was in front a church so we had to ask for permission from a worker if we can film. They allowed us, so we began with our journey. My partner and I spoke to our actors to explain to them what they will do and how they will be in our film. We stayed for a while, until it got almost dark. Since we are teenagers it took us longer than expected to film because a few of the actors got distracted and started messing around. We soon got back on track and continued. Right when it got dark it started drizzling. We thought it was luck because right before that we finished filming for the day. The next day of our filming took place in a plaza. We decided to go somewhere nice, yet quiet with not much people around. We also tried to find the best location with the best lighting. Thankfully our friend came along to help us film. He was a really big help because without him we would have struggled big time. We continued filming there for about 2-3 hours. In the beginning it was kind of stressing since we did not have a camera man in that moment but soon enough we figured it out. We could not re-shoot a lot of our scenes due to the pandemic that is why there was not a variety of angles, we did not get a chance to contain as much as we wanted
. To conclude, I am extremely proud of our hard work and I do think it all paid off in the end because my partner and I are both very happy with the end results.

Re-Edit Blog

For the past few days my group member and I have been working on mostly the editing portion of our final project. We focused mainly on the title sequence and timings per scene. It was minor errors but we still wanted to perfect it. Again it has been difficult for me and my partner to physically work together on one computer. COVID-19 has made our project much more difficult. Facetime has been very helpful to talk over what we need to fix. Since our re-shoots were a fail due to the president saying we should stay inside we have to edit to the best of our abilities. We planned on re-shooting for certain types of lighting but thankfully, iMovie has a feature to change certain lighting and colors. We also wanted to re-shoot for the sound to make the noises louder and more suspenseful. We decided to add sound affects for the scenes such as car slamming, the trunk slamming, and the boy getting hit in the head. We have also had to work on the camera angles and movements. After we did an activity where another student checked our film we realized we have a couple movements we didn’t include. Me and partner went back in and tried to use iMove and other editing softwares to try to add more angles and movements. As for titles we have included everything that is required. We have also been able to search for and include incidental music to change the mood in our film. For the beginning we used a soft song to represent a light mood when everything is okay. Then a hardcore song once the villains get to the couple. We want the audience to feel different emotions when watching this, so the music is very helpful when it comes to this. We will continue to add more features to make our video greater with the power of editing. My partner and I are so far proud of our work for all we have put into it.

Re-Shoot Blog

My partner and I have been planning to do re-shoots for our film for about two weeks now. We wanted to focus on fixing up our lighting, camera angles and sound. For the lighting we wanted to go earlier in the day to get our scenes to become brighter than the old clips we have before. For the camera angles, we still needed to perfect certain clips in our film to contain as many angles as we can for Cambridge. Lastly, for sound, we noticed after looking back at the footage that with the voices used in the park scenes did not sound as good. We planned to use better microphone quality to fully hear the actors voices in the film. Unfortunately, due to the recent Corona Virus none of this has happened yet. We wanted to re-shoot to get this finished as soon as possible but this terrifying pandemic had other plans. The government and even president doesn't even recommend us to go outside. This affects our re-shoot truly in a negative way. It has been difficult trying to see my partner and the rest of the actors because of social distancing suggestion made by the government. I feel that with this virus it has become very difficult for my group mate and I to fully finish our project. Earlier in this project we created a few slides to help us plan for certain things like location, health, and schedule. Going back to that, our days of filming and editing were not as precise. We still need to re-shoot and at this point in time we are not sure if we can anymore. We might just have to edit the film as much as we can till everything becomes right. My group mate and I are trying our best not to worry, since we don't have much time. This is a stressful process especially with this dangerous virus. Of course my group mate, other students, and I have been trying to keep positive during this world-wide crisis. Thankfully we still have communication with our teaches to help us along the way.

Editing Blog: Last Few Days

We are finally about done without our editing process. We have been working on this for several days now to perfect it to the best of our abilities. The last few things we were focusing on is sound and timing. Thankfully we have enough footage so we can cover it all with sound. We were planning on using a light calm sound in beginning of the film. Further on we planned on using a suspenseful sound to set the tone. We had search on iTunes for different soundtracks. We did not have another software for music so we just resulted in apple. We had some difficulties trying to set all of this because of the recent pandemic of the Corona Virus. It was hard to see and communicate with my partner because of family issues and wifi issues. We recently can't leave our houses so it is a problem when it comes to reshooting. We used to physically work together hands on with the editing and filming portion but since this outbreak it has been extremely difficult. However we are trying our best to continue working hard to completely finish our film. We still are adding and changing a few more transitions to make our stuff extra smooth. What we have also included is sound affects. The sound affects will help the movie really come to life. Especially with the scene of the boy getting hit in the face. The sounds will help us bring everything together to make our film make sense. We are proud of all the work we have so far. I truly cannot wait to upload our work to Cambridge to see what final grade I can get.

Editing Blog: Second Day

For the next few days of us working this long film we have eventually finished the editing scene over the past days. We have been working hard together to get it finished and we are proud it is soon to be done. We have been working on this for a while and it will soon be a great relief to finish this film at the best of our ability. We are aiming for a high score so we will continue working hard. What we have done is our transitions and title sequence. We were able to add it in but we had to do a lot of changing around with font and color. This was a little complicated because of the lighting changes and movement of the scenes. We have most of the transitions done but not fully complete since there are some technical difficulties with how we set it up. I feel that my group member and I are doing well with the editing process even though it can be difficult at times. My job is to point out minor flaws in our film so there isn't any mistakes. My group mates job is to keep the videos in a safe folder on his phone so we don't lose any of our footage. We are glad we are being allowed to have this much time to perfect our video. What we also need to include into our video is sound and music to fit our film. We are having trouble finding a suspenseful sound to fit our film because we want it to correlate perfectly with the scenes. We are also learning how to add sound affects into our film because there are scenes of the mobs walking in the grass so we want to add a more intense sound, maybe record crunching and add it into the film. There are also scenes of car/truck slamming. Most importantly the scene of one of the mobs hitting the main guy with a gun across the head. With that we want to add a sound affect to make it seem louder as if it really hurt when in reality no one was harmed within the film. We will continue improving till finished. Hopefully it will become easier the more we edit and finish our film.

Editing Blog: First Days

After our peer review me and my group mate thought it was best to begin with the editing process. Since we went over about what we must contain in our film we discussed how we will start. However, it is difficult for us to both work on it together since we are always so busy. We begin to plan and make notes of what we should include. For example; sounds, common cuts, and most importantly our titles. Finally my group mate and I were prepared to work on the editing portion of our final project. We decided to watch some short films and trailers to help us create a unique video. We knew this might be a difficult task so of course we watched many things like movies and shows to help us. We soon got the hang of it and then we began. We are editing our film on an iPhone 10. My group mate has the iMovie software and ready to use. We chose our phones instead of the school computers because our first project took us longer because of the complications that came with Pinnacle Studios. We were ready, we began to choose our clips carefully. Once we have decided on the scenes and clips to use we put them in a folder so they wouldn't get lost. We downloaded every thing so we don't have to start over the next time we edit again. We began playing with types of transitions in our editing. What we will mostly want to use is jump cuts or dissolving affect to show one scene (location) to another. I am still not a pro at using iMovie but I know soon I will get the hang of it. We also discussed how and where our titles should appear. We still have long ways to go so we will continue to edit.

Peer Review Blog

Today was the first time we did a Peer edit in our AICE Media class. It's a great way to learn from other students and get feedback to improve our film. We were asked on things like: how long was the film, what is the story, are there smooth transitions? and many more. We were told to Peer review a group and judge them based off of what they have to far. In my opinion so far, I really think there film is very interesting and suspenseful. Although they did not have everything that was included in our Peer review worksheet, they still have time to re-film and re-edit. We judged there camera movements, angles, lightings, and sounds. Watching another students film gives me and my group mate inspiration to create a film which contains all it needs to get a perfect score. I also liked this process because we can connect with others. Seeing other peoples ideas just shows how unique teenagers can be. At the end of our worksheet we had two important questions. One was, what was one thing you really liked about the film. The one thing that really stood out to me and my group mate was the suspense of the film. The plot is confusing which makes you wanna know more. For example the main girl had a red blood like dot on her hand and even she was confused about it. At the end it shows her hearing a noise out of her room, the cliffhanger is she opens the door and thats when the film stops. There is not much context to even assume anything which is interesting to us. The final question is what is one suggestion I would make to the film. One suggestion would be to show more of the strange marking on her hand. It shows the red in her palm but not so much to the point where you can understand what it is. It is a little complicated to think about but overall I really enjoyed their film.

Filming Blog: Last Few Days

Since we have almost finished filming we only had a few tasks left to do. Like we thought, we still have to continue filming because there was minor complications. For example, it started raining so we have to switch up some scenes. It becomes difficult when there are multiple characters in our film. My group mate and I have to choose days where everyone is available to record. It is also a challenge because each of our friends who help us film live all around the city of Fort Lauderdale. This day my group mate was able to get the car since he had his license. It took us a while to pick up all our actors, so by the time we got there it was around 3:30. During this time in Florida night time comes sooner than other seasons. At 5:45 it was already starting to get dark so we had to finish as much as we had possible. My group mate and I spent a while trying to teach the actors on what to do and say. Soon enough our friends understood it. We recorded a lot of footage to be sure of what we should and we will include. If there is any videos with loud background or people we can always use the other scenes we recorded as backup. My group mate and I work together well when it comes to the filming process. We will continue to work together and get off ideas from each other when we start the editing portion as well. We still have another day to film so we will gather up the actors again and continue on Saturday. Since we learned from our mistakes, we will start the filming process earlier so we don’t run out of time. We also thought of a plan: instead of picking each actor/friend up we agreed to all meet at a certain location to make it easier for us. Hopefully there is no complications when we record on Saturday.

Filming Blog: Next Few Days

We continued to film on Saturday. It was a rainy and gloomy day so it was difficult for us to film. We planned to continue on the weekend because the rest of the actors were available to film. Last second we decided to go to a different small park to film. Fortunately, there was less people and it still seemed like a similar setting as the location prior. However, there was a church almost connected to the park so we had to ask for permission. I got everyone's costumes ready to film. Before actually starting to film, my group mate was the one to talk to the pastor of the church to let him know we are doing a school film with weapons and such. He told us it was okay, we just had small limitations on it. My task was to be the girl actor, we did pretty much all the scenes that have to do with the bad guys. For the climax, the girl had to be kidnapped. I had to get picked up and "shoved" into a trunk of car. Of course, no one was harmed because safety is the most important thing when filming, it is a priority. The most important scenes to film were the ones who had to do with the goons. So we finished the scenes that they are acting in. My group mate and I need one more day to film just the scenes of us two in the beginning. We could not finish it this Saturday because it was already getting dark and once we left the parking lot it started raining. Next, our plan is to get straight onto the editing process unless we need more scenes to fit the 2 min project. To finish things so we don't do it last second. Hopefully, this weekend it doesn't rain so the process will go smoothly. So far filming has been fun and simple, I enjoy this project more than the previous one.

Filming Blog: First Days

Me and my group member started our filming process on Tuesday and continued it on Wednesday. We did not film last weekend because we were both busy. My group member's parent brought us to the first filming location and stayed with us for safety. We brought our props like: food, phones, and a blanket for these first two filming days. To film we used an iPhone 11 instead of the school camera because we think it is easier to film on. Filming on our phone can help us access our videos or dump it to film editing apps. School cameras and the editing software Pinnacle Studios can also get slow sometimes, we learned from past experiences to we just decided to use our phones for the biggest project this year. The first location was at the park, at a low angle to start off the scene, we got their parent to drive past to use it as a clip. It was a really hot day so we wore sunscreen to protect us from the sun. Filming in public locations may be hard because all of the distractions such as car noises, people talking, and people in background. For the next scene we used a zoom in shot as a clip of the main boy's phone having a conversation with the main girl. It was kind of difficult to get a shot of the phone since it gets a glare from the sun so we had to move to shade quickly before any other interruptions. Filming in public outside locations is also troublesome because of the sun and lighting, filming in the day should be quick enough to where there is not any lighting shifts from light to dark over time. While filming the boy we kept messing up because people kept walking in front and behind him which messes up the scene and even the lighting. We kept moving around the whole park to get the best shots. It took us about two hours of filming for both Tuesday and Wednesday. The next time we film will be with more characters, the bad guys of the story. We all need to pick a time and day where we are not busy to film successfully. Overall the first two days of filming wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. We will continue to film this Friday to finish up and soon edit.

Planning Blog: Story Board

For this portion of our filming project we were told to make a story board. This helps us for the future for many reasons. We will know during the filming process what we will include. A storyboard is generally a script but in picture form. It also gives us details like angles and movements and types of editing shows what we should include when actually filming. This was a very complicated storyboard. It was quite confusing managing to fit 60 scenes for a 2 minute video. This was a difficult task. This wasn’t the greatest thing to do, its a lot of work.Hopefully the shooting of this project becomes easier.

Planning:Title Design

Our plan is in place and we have everything prepared such as our location, participants, schedule, etc. Now, all we have to focus on is our title design and how in-depth this needs to undergo because it is going to show the audience a hint of the type of movie. If the audience is interested then the titles were done correctly. The point of our titles is to give off a secret spy mission type of film. The transition should give it the main hint because it is a key of spy mission films. This is actually a fun assignment because it allows the creator to be creative on how they will present their film. We are lucky to include back up plans because if our original concept accidentally blends in then we are able to change it. This won't be a hard task and will be quite simple to make and not a lot of other groups will do this because they will stick to the basics. The font although could be changed depending on what looks best with the typewriter transition. Overall, this film will be the definition of a secret spy mission film.

Planning: Location, Sound, Participants, Health, Schedule

While still in the planning stages, what we have done next is the information about the location, participants, health, and schedule. We use this to help us when we will begin filming. For example, we know where our scenes will take place, we wanted it to be a place that fits our story. We also have important information on what we need to keep us students safe, which is in the health slides of our planning. We have also included the participants in which will be in our film, friends and even family. Furthermore, is our filming schedule, we need to stay on track to get everything done. This is the most important step because it helps us know when we will do each thing to not confuse us. Me and my group-mate find that this way of planning is much easier rather than the projects we did in the past. These slides will contain all we need for the next step in our planning which will be the storyboard, it helps us have everything set. This helps us feel organized with all the work we have to do so nothing causes  confusion.

Planning; Sound Script

In our sound script, we are giving off ideas of what we will include. My partner and I broke apart our roles so we could help each other. I am doing the sound script blog which involves dialogues and types of sound in this 2-minute film. We each chose our own script because we have more strengths in the one we chose. We put a lot of time and work into these scripts to help us for when we can finally film our ideas. I contained dialogue of the main couple in the story and the bad guys. We are putting as many ideas as we can to benefit our film. My role was pretty much a dialogue storyboard which is very helpful in the long run. I enjoy doing this blog because planning ahead gives me confidence in how our sequence will turn out. We will continue to plan and blog about further stuff like people in the film, health and safety, and location.

Planning; Shooting Script

This was supposed to be a script describing what would visually be on our film. We needed to include camera angles, movements, and lighting. We also needed to include the lighting. On our film, there was unfortunately not much lighting change we can do since it'll be in a public park. There will be a lot of movements because it is a film with a lot of action going on. Our pitch was improved while creating this google slides project because we realize certain flaws. Our original pitch was too long and had too much action compared to now. The film will be hard to create since we are only given 2 minutes. In our opinion, we believe more time given would bring out more creativity. This is good to guide us on our final task.

Title Research: Comedy

Are We Done Yet?
1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences of the film?

Title Research: Watch the Titles

We found out about these new helpful websites that mainly has to deal with titles of films. This helps us with our Cambridge project coming up. Researching titles gives us a boost of knowledge of what we are supposed to contain to get our full points for our big final film. This website contains tabs such as, Title Sequence, Designers, and Studios. I learned that this site gives you a lot of information about all sorts of things from tv shows to video games. The purpose of this website is to give us, the students examples of how titles are showed and formed on films. There are a variety of different title sequences. There are over 200 different sequences to choose from! The website's goal is to attract a global audience. Our group will continue to use this website because it is more trustworthy than the art of the tiles website.

Title Research: Art of the Title

We will also be researching another website which contains information on title style. This website is useful for us because it can teach us more about movie titles and how they are done. We have to use this website to research different genres for future blogs. The website is known for the creative process that each title sequence uses. The aim of the website is to "honor the creators and innovators who contribute to the field." It taught me that certain genres have a certain style to it so when you watch it you automatically understand the type of movie you're watching. It could be anything from the transitions of the title sequence to the font. The color of the lettering could give you an idea of the film you're expecting to watch. The title has to match the connotation of the genre in order to grab the attention of the audience. Understanding the title style is good to analyze the film instantly. The URL is https://www.artofthetitle.com/ we cannot include it into the screenshot because at the moment the website is down and won't allow us to use it.

Genre Research: Avengers: Infinity War

The Mise-en-Scene in the film Avengers: Infinity War is created outstandingly with a storyline that the audience are obsessed with. The scenery and the properties that make up the movies are important to give the viewers what they love. I will start with the costumes in this movie. Since this film has to do with super heroes and them saving the world, they obviously wear their super suits that make them powerful and different from ordinary humans. Of course the characters also have normal lives, so their costumes also include ordinary everyday clothing. Another important quality is lighting. There is an array of different types of lighting such as, lowkey light, highkey light, three-point, ambient lighting. All of this is used to feature harsh shafts of light into the scene. Dark light is also used to intensify what the characters are feeling. Other than lighting actors are needed. There are many famous actors in this film like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Tom Holland, Josh Brogan and way more are important factors for making this movie a hit. Make-up is also used like blood and prosthetics to show gashes on characters face to show them fighting. Props are also very important, in this move there are a lot of weapons and normal human objects, also crazy ships to show this movie does not only take place on earth. For the setting there are multiple locations which makes the film way more interesting. For example, space, different planets, homes, and cities.
Camera angles are also important in the film, used for fight scenes and normal communication.
Pan is used throughout the film to show scenery or battles happening. Multiple high and low angles representing power. Infinity war also contains cranes and trunk shots to show the characters moving around during fights with the villains. Tracking shot is moved to watch the super hero fly in the sky. The film also contains point of view shots of what the heres are seeing for example when iron man is defeating someone. Eye level shots are used between two people about to fight like any hero in the movie. Zoom is the most used camera movement. Throughout the whole film there is zooms on objects and heres and even villains.
Infinity war also contains multiple sounds and editing. There is a lot of sound bridge throughout the scenes causing suspense. Of course there is dialogue between all the heroes and villains. Dietetic and Non-Diegetic sounds are used throughout to give the movie character and emotion. Sound motif is also used to identify certain objects. Cut away is used throughout the film because of the importance plot of fighting off Thanos. Jump cut and reaction shot is throughout the whole film to show the emotions of the heroes like if someone dies. Some elements in the movie are heroes, importance of a plot, battles, and powers. I liked the battles and confrontations of the characters the most because it adds more suspense to the movie. An element I didn't really like was the normal stay at home dialogue between characters, or even in the famous office.

Genre Research: As Above So Below

As Above So Below contains unique Mise-en-scene. The costumes used in this horror film are actually pretty basic. The film just included clothes you would use on a hike. Usually, clothes that wouldn't matter if they were messed up. The location this was mostly filmed was in the catacombs beneath Paris, France. The actors that are used are regular actors that have appeared in famous films but were not appreciated enough. The make-up used were a lot of dirt and sand and dust. This was because this was mostly filmed in the catacombs and this is all underground. The main props were cameras, flashlights, and hints to solve the catacomb mysteries. The setting was different parts of the catacombs such as underground churches and strange gates.
The camera angles that are used are mostly pov, two-shots, and over the shoulder. The camera movements that are only used are pan and tilt due to readings of symbols that they look at. This film was filmed to look like someone without a high-quality camera. Some movies who do this is 'Earth to Echo.' The sound that was used was the non-diegetic sound. No other sound was used because it was supposed to look like a self-shot documentary. But there was dialogue throughout. The editing was also pretty bland too, the only effect used was cutaways. This film was based on the plot and how it was to find the treasure and the gates to hell.
The genre of this film is horror because there are unexpected elements in the catacombs. The elements that I enjoyed are the backstory of the monsters and the atmosphere because the film is dark and eerie. What I did enjoy was the possibility for a sequel because there aren't any possibilities so were stuck with one film and one film only.

Genre Research: The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight had an interesting Mis-en-Scene. The costumes used in this are suits and masks for the bad guys that Joker has for them and the bat suit for Batman. The location that's used is Gotham because all this is based in this one city. The famous actors that are used are Christian Bale and Heath Ledger both going against each other as bad guy versus good guy. The make-up used is for the ones who are injured in the movie. Some make-up used is the blood for the wounded. The props that are mostly focused on are guns and the armor or gadgets that Batman uses. Some of the settings that are used in the film are the bank in the beginning heist, the spot where Batman uses to know he is needed, and the classic garage parking that he goes against Batman.
The camera angles that are used are eye-level when the Joker is seen in the jail cell looking at the commissioner. Also, there is neck up shots when the commissioner interrogates Joker. There are multiple over the shoulder shots. There was a tracking shot when Batman slams Joker. When Batman gets also knocked out from a slam against a car and there's a zoom shot into Batman's face. There's a pan when the building explodes there's a pan from the building to the outside. Also, a tilt when the building that Rachel is in explodes.
The common sounds that are used are the scores and non-diegetic sound for the sound effects. They used this for the gunshots, exploding buildings, and car crashes. The editing effects were actually pretty bland because all this was natural and based on the acting the only frequently used editing effects were cross-cutting and cutaway. The elements that are used in the action genre are the story, characters, and important setting. The elements that I enjoyed was the story because it was a personal attachment that Batman had on this one girl but was also balancing the life of crime that he has to go through. I was not appealed to the setting because they were in dark areas that were hard to see but I understood it was to make it more dramatic.

Genre Research: Kingsman Golden Circle

The Mis-en-Scene of Kingsman The Golden Circle has a wide variety of diversity. The costumes used are the suits used for the good guys, a highschool football letter jacket for the bad guys, and for the allies had a cowboy type of outfit. The locations that were mainly included were England, the U.S., and Cambodia. The actors used were mostly men and there were important women such as the main evil character who was a woman named 'Poppy.' A lot of the make-up used was damages to the characters after some gruesome fights such as blood, gunshot wounds, bandaging for this. The props used were mostly weapons and clothing. The setting that was used was a battlefield and different locations used as hero and enemy base.
The camera angles used were mostly used for communications, fights, escape or accident scenes. There were multiple instances where there were was over the shoulder shot. In one fight you could obviously tell it was a two-shot and in another instance, there's an aerial shot of the Kingsman facility being blown up by a missile. The main character was trying to be a better man so through the beginning of the film and the camera would have a high angle of his face making less superior although throughout the film he gained a high angle and when anything was focused on him he became an honorable man. The camera movements used were a lot of pans and tilt as well as tracking shots. The pans were used for fights, the tilts were used for every time they got something new for example the suits. The tracking shots were for escape scenes.
The sounds used in this film were clearly dialogue, there was non-diegetic sound when there was any slams or gunshots, and there were sound motifs. The whole film consisted of scores, incidental music, and ambient sound. There wasn't much of a variety of editing. There was cross-cutting, eye-line match, iris in, and reaction shot. The elements I enjoyed were the characters because the antagonist were very committing and the antagonist was a hard-working woman who made over 250 billion dollars. Some of the elements of the genre I was not appealed to was the story because it consisted of multiple subcategories as murder and drug usage.

Choosing our Final Genre

Finally it was time for my group-mate and I to figure out what genre we will be using in our film.
With many conversations between my group mate and I, we decided to chose to do a Crime film. This film will contain suspense, kidnapping, and sitting at the edge of your seat emotions. We chose this because we both think this is the most interesting genre, many ideas can come out from the crime genre. We are already starting to figure out what else we need to finalize our pitch to get ahead. Suspenseful films fictionalize crimes, their motives, their detection, and criminals. In our film we want to include: unsavory characters, danger and tension, and seemingly unsolvable crimes.

Other Genres Researched

For our next two genres we have to research we are choosing to do it on horror and epic film.
Me and my teammate will now research and give information on each of these genres to help us further for our Cambridge final project. Some things I will include are common camera angles, editing, sound and elements.

Horror
common camera angles
-Bird eye, high angle to make figure of an object to seem vulnerable.
-Close ups, to see the emotion of a character.
-Tracking, Panning shot to make it seem as if a character is being followed for suspense.
-Tilted angle, to create dramatic tension of the monster in film.
-Over the shoulder shot, to build up suspense so the audiences sees before the character.
-Hand held camera shot, to add sense of reality.

common mise-en-scene
Lighting- Spotlighting, underexposure, harsh light, projected shadows are all used in horror films.
Actors- Bela Lugosi (Dracula), Tyler Posey (Truth or Dare), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) are some examples of actors in horror movies.
Makeup/Costumes- Clown costumes, skin prosthetics, dark suits, blood, eye contacts, wigs.
Props- video camera, masks, weapons; knives, chainsaws, bat are all in famous horror films.
Setting- Alleys, abandoned places, houses, hotels

common editing
-Quick cuts, to give audience sense of urgency.
-Extended uncut clipsas tension builds the audience anticipates progression.
-Fade in and out to create eerie emotions towards a scene.
-Action Match, to show both characters monster/villan and the person in danger

elements of genre
There are multiple components needed to create a horror movie for example, a frighting menace, clear rules to live by, proper theme music, backstory of the monster/villans purpose, possibility for a sequal, plenty of characters who could disappear at any moment, atmosphere, trademark murder weapon, and the ending face off.

examples of horror films
Some famous horror movies are Hereditary, The Babadook, A Quiet Place, The Shining, The Conjuring, Jaws, Scream, Poltergeist and many more terrifying films.

common sounds
Horror movies have multiple sounds that are famous to give the films that creepy goosebump type feeling. For instance normal people use everyday items to make horror movie sounds like munching on crackers or stepping on tomatoes, crushing peppers to give an illusion of monsters like zombies eating on humans. Spoon and knife noises are used as well to show an enemy is about to murder.

Epic Film
common camera angles
-Ariel shots, to show the audience the extent of a journey.
-Long shots, show the extent of nature of the beauty of their environment
-Tracking shots, to show show a conversation through some terrain.

common mise-en-scene
Lighting- Soft lighting natural lighting and highkey lighting are used in epic films to give off the nature look and create beautiful scenery, although most epic films these days contain inside lighting because most movies are now used with green screens.
Actors- Rodrigo Santoro (300), Russell Crowe (Gladiator), Morgan Freeman (Ben-Hur) are some actor examples in Epic films.
Makeup/Costumes- Blood, armor, suits, helmets, rusty pieces of clothing are all used in Epic films.
Props- Armor, sheilds, swords, animals like horses are all in Epic films.
Settings- Most Epic films take place in the outdoors, old homes, farms, mountains, deserts, and oceans.

common editing
-Cross cutting, can show two people or teams doing something against each other.
-Dissolve, dissolving scene to scene can cause either uplifting emotions or the opposite.
-Jumpcuts, in movies this can cause suspense from one thing happening to another.
-Fade in and out, shows an important scene in Epics to another.

elements of genre
There are many elements of genre in an Epic. For example, A hero and a journey, mythical creature (fantasy or mythical), Ambitious nature shots, a large battle (usually a war but can also be mythical), Symphonic music scores, and unusual costumes.

examples of epic films
Some examples of Epic films are The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Hobbit, 300 Apocalypse
Ben-Hur, Titanic, and Troy all fit in this category.

common sounds
Some common sounds that take place in Epics are mystical/magical movies to bring joy and spirit or even loud suspenseful sounds. Others can include diegetic sound, any said during a scene. Non-diegetic sound, any sound added after the film to create emotion. Or even no sound to bring an ominous tone.

Genre Research

This is a project we worked on with our group that informs the research we did on the genre: Crime. This would include Mis en Scene, the elements, and certain films in this genre. This is a summary of what is included in the crime genre. We created this to help us on future assignments. Now this will be beneficial to the final task in this AICE class. Isolating various elements from a film and categorizing allows to determine the genre to have comparisons and outstanding judgement. This was not too hard of an assignment and was quite interesting.

Narrowing Our Pitches

This next blog will be me and my group mates decision on choosing our pitches. I will be explaining the positive and negatives about each of our pitches. Since we have two pitches that contain suspense and adventure we decided for our last one to have dramatic emotion to it. The pitch we will most likely choose is one of the suspense ones because we had more creative ideas on that choice. We have discussed and we are mainly considering the first two, similar but hard to decide.
For our first choice on out pitch we decided to tweak the idea into instead of the girl not knowing the boy is a spy, they are both spy's. The main pitch is there are two spys, and one of them gets kidnapped, the other partner decides to do whatever they can to save them. The antagonist has a gun to the hostage and the spy has a gun to the antagonist, in the last scene there is shot gun and the audience will never know who was shot. A reason why this pitch is good is because we have a lot of creative ideas, more than we have for the others. My groupmate and I are more confident in this topic. We will be sure to have more important features and new ideas. We like this pitch because we both agree suspenseful films are more interesting. A reason why this pitch wouldn't be good would probably be because we might not have everything we need to fulfill our ideas. We will try and go to all the locations needed to record this type of film. A lot goes into action films like props, locations, costume, actors, and lighting. Since its only two people in a group we are going to have to face some issues but hopefully we over come it.
Our second choice we would like to think about is another pitch that deals with suspense. Our pitch would be: my group mate and I are spy's and we go on secret missions and in the end we are forced to take each other out because our boss assigned us to kill one another. Just like the other they involve action and adventure. A lot will be required to finish this film in a fascinating way. We like this pitch because of our interest in crime and suspense. A reason this might not be the best pitch would most likely be because it might not sound as interesting as our first choice. We want our pitch to get the audience's attention. Our goal is to have the viewers engage and enjoy what they are watching. We hope our finishing product turns out how we plan it to. We will have some difficulties but in the end we will work it out and do the best we can.
In the end my teammate and I decided that our first pitch is going to be the one we are going to make. We find it more interesting and entertaining. We are glad this was a smooth and simple process. Learning about pitches before doing story board is a good way to be prepared. I am excited for this project and the end result.

Starting the Final Task

1/17 Hello I am Brianna and I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High school. I'm in the AICE program so I decided AICE Media Studies would be an interesting class to take. So far in this class we have done two films/video projects. I have learned a lot since the beginning of the school year. I am hoping to have a great score for this upcoming Cambridge project. I am excited to be getting to work to complete this task. This will probably not be the easiest project but I am determined to try my best on it. From filming to editing. I will be working with a partner for this next project and I am sure we will strive because we listen to each others ideas and details. I will only have one person working with me but that is okay because we are both diligent workers.
Throughout the school year I have learned new and unique lessons that involve film making and how it gets distributed to audiences. I have learned other things like camera angles, shots, and movements, and editing all of this will be applied to our approaching project. I have progressed in my video taking and editing skills, I find this class fun because students get to show their creative side. Our teachers have taught us on the film making process which makes it easier for me to understand how films get out to viewers. I personally think I am good at editing and figuring out which edits match the theme or vibe of a film. I like to thing of myself as creative, with the help and tutorials of my teachers my understanding of editing has grown greatly. I am also good at thinking of ideas before creating something. For example, I enjoy story boards because they help with the filming process along the way. I enjoy this class and hopefully I improve on creating good camera angles and movements. The notes I take are very helpful for me to do good on our projects because our teachers tell us what we need to contain and I take all their advice and apply the knowledge.
At this moment me and my teammate are discussing on our pitches for our project. A pitch is an idea where a film is encapsulated in about 25 words. Our first pitch was an idea of my group member being a secret spy and I being his friend that didn't know, I was taken and he was determined to find me. Our next pitch is my group mate and I are spy's and we go on secret missions and in the end we are forced to take each other out because our boss assigned us to kill one another. We most likely wanted to create a film which contained more adventure and suspense than any other genre. Our final pitch was a more of emotional idea. We decided for our last one to be, two best friends who are having great lives and suddenly one of them pick up a terrible illness/disease, once they find out they decide to live life to the fullest not knowing when will be the last day. We are now going over which two pitches are the best. In our next assignment we will chose two of the best ones. Here is my teammate working on pitches.
