Editing Blog

10/28  Today was the day to edit for our commercial. I had some issues with the computer. Our computers are very slow, outdated, had confusion with logging into Pinnacle Studios. There was already footage of another group in our computer. Since we have dumped our footage in the computer we will now start editing. The software Pinnacle Studios is very helpful for our commercial. It allows us to quickly access tools we need to perfect our video. Pinnacle Studios is already installed in the schools Media Studies computers. The software needs a username and password to be logged into. We didn't know the password or username, so one of our teachers had to come over and log on for us. 

     Most of the time, we were frustrated because we were confused. We expected the editing process to be easier, since when it was described to us it seemed simple. Hopefully after more use of the editing software it will become easier for us. I am expecting more practice on editing with our teacher. We are still not sure if we should delete it or just continue with our editing and disregarding it. We transferred our footage and started to edit. There was much we had to cut out to make the commercial 30 seconds. We had some confusion on adding text onto the clips we wanted. We are planning on adding motivational music to make it like a real Nike commercial. It is important for us to make this as best as we can to get a high grade. Since this is our first video our group has edited we will try to research more on how to edit. 

     We finished filming our commercial last class. I feel that this commercial was challenging to edit, even tho we are  not done our computer has still caused quite a lot of problems. The more we use Pinnacle Studios the easier the future videos will be. My group and I haven’t fully finished editing. We will continue next class. I will research more on how to edit using this software.  This class doesn’t require much work but we still need to put effort into it. I will work on editing better and watch videos so our commercial comes out great. As a self reflection I wish I would be given more time and more guidance. I do think we will be given two days for this because we were given two days for the filming process

Filming Day

     10/24 Today we finally were allowed to film. We have one day left to film and edit, 
we already finished recording the footage for our commercial. We made sure to make 
sure we bring everything back. I carried the tripod and camera for half the time. 
Our teacher explained a little bit to us about the camera and tripod before leaving 
class. Our teacher also instructed us more on how to dump all the footage onto 
the computer and into a new folder. We finally were able to start recording for our
commercial project. Before we left the class we grabbed our props to use in the 
commercial.  We left the room to start looking for our locations we used in our storyboard.
My group and I talked about a few ideas before recording. 

  Our first location was the library stairs, my job at that moment was to help with the 
angles. I helped my group member time with his running on the stairs so we have 
enough footage in our commercial. After that we were gonna include a volleyball
scene and of course that requires a volleyball so we used it as our prop. I went to
get the ball while the members in my group were figuring out which angle to record 
at. After that, we were planning to walk across the school to the senior patio but first
we went back to class to get more props like our books, binders, and journals. We 
arrived at the patio. It was my time to be recorded so my partner recorded me and 
my two other friends were in the video. The commercial focuses on Nike clothing like 
clothes and shoes so we started each clip with a close up of the shoe. We walked
across the patio as a clip. Finally we went to record one of our members running on 
the track. Our last scene was just a clip of our shoes.

  To summarize, the day went pretty smoothly and better than expected. We 
we still might want to record some more next class period just incase, to get the right 
footage at the right timing. We made sure each person was in the commercial for
it to be equal. We want to try to edit the best we possibly can to get a good grade 
when scored. I'm glad to be working on this commercial project with a good group. 
I also like this project because it teaches me more about camcorders and 
videography. We have dumped our footage into a folder already so next class we 
start to edit. Together we will learn how to properly edit for our commercial. I find this
class interesting because its not like any other class in my school. I am excited to 
learn more about this subject throughout the year.

Storyboard

    10/22 Today we planned out our storyboard. We have our commercial planned out and ready for filming. For the first scene we want to start with a stop watch which will eventually lead up to a person in our group running with Nike shoes with an extreme close up. We will then include low angles to transition into the shoes while they are running up the stairs. Next another person will be running around the track with a long shot, pan, and transition into the shoes. We will have other clips like another member playing volleyball and walking through the halls while all ending up in shoe transitions. At the end of the commercial we will have the Nike symbol at the end. Instead of dialogue we are planning to add motivational music to persuade the viewers. We will try our best to inspire audience to go out and purchase items from Nike.

Editing Blog

10/14   Today our class went over how to sign in and out with our cameras and how to edit our commercial. We are assigned an agreement every time we use the school camera and every time we return it, if we don’t have it signed we will not be able to use the camera or SD card for recording. We learned where to sign in and where to sign out. There is a separate sheet for the SD card and camera so we must be responsible for our things, the sign in folder is near our classroom door and the sign out is on the other side of the room. We should have our contact number written down on the paper and another person in case someone in our group is not here. For our commercial project we will be using a camcorder which is usually easy to use. Our teacher taught us how and where to put in the SD card and how to use the tripod for stability. She is teaching us good general information on how to start up using our cameras and editing in the computer. 
     A lot of our equipment is easy to use because of its basic tools and I have prior experience with the use of cameras. Our teacher showed us how easy it is to turn on the cameras and off by flipping the screen where the videos shows on the camcorder closed and open. To charge the camera there is a U shaped port to plug it in from, it takes awhile to load but the once the camera is charged it stays on for a long time. We also leaned about the SD card reader which is a way to dump all of your footage onto the computer. Another thing we were taught was how to use a tripod. The use of a tripod is for stability. It has knobs for you to be able to adjust the camera. You can move it in some certain movements such as pan and tilt. You can bring it up as high your liking. 
     Lastly, we went over the editing portion for the commercial. We must make a folder to put in our clips and takes and set it as a desktop. We should save our footage to other places like our google drive as a back-up. We use pinnacle studious to edit our clips. To check if you have imported you must find the title of what you have saved in your folder. We learned how to crop raw footage using the razor blade icon it will help us in the future when its time to edit. We also were taught how to add text with the "T" icon. To export, we must use MPEG 4 best quality and start export, name it, and save it as an Export. We must save as after each time we edit in our commercial. We will continue to be taught more things to improve our project in the best way. I feel the more my group and I start to understand it the easier the film process will be .

Planning Blog

10/10 Today we will be going over the planning portion of our commercial. We will set up things we need. For example, our props, costumes, schedule, location list, and our back up plan. Each person in our group is planning on contributing something towards our commercial project. An idea for our project is a view of different Nike apparel in different scenes. Our commercial will be very diverse in clothing. For our back-up plan if someone doesn't show up then we will either have a back-up actor or just have one person do everything. Some scenes we will use are the main stairs, the huge wall next to the stairs, and the track field. A back-up scene could be the gym.

Research Conventions and Codes

    10/7 Our commercial will be about the clothing brand Nike. We want to focus on the shoe portion of the brand and ways it can help in sports. Technical codes are connotations that we make when we look at films and photographs. For the technical codes we will focus on bright lighting, quick editing, music for the audio background, and camera angles we learned in the class. Symbolic codes are social in nature. For the symbolic codes our setting will be in the school, we will have props such as athletic wear such as uniforms as our costumes and any type of shoes used in these sports. Some of the shoes that will be shown will come from sports such as basketball, soccer, track, and regular lifestyle street wear.
    We chose this production because it's an everyday product we use and everyone in our group all partake in some certain athletic activity. We want to persuade the people watching our commercial to go out and purchase our product. This will benefit us because when it comes down to prop all of us have something from Nike that we can contribute to the commercial so we don't have to focus on a budget or going out and looking for more products. Our unique advantage is that we are students who are trying to grab the attention from other people like us because we know at this day and age we are all working hard to either enjoy in a sport or make ourselves look better to feel better.

Introductory Blog


    10/6 Hello my name is Brianna, I am a Sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High school. I am in the Cambridge program and Im glad to say I make my parents proud with my good grades. I really enjoy my school, it is unique and filled with so many friendly students and faculty. I have made multiple friends in this school and made best friends as well.  My first period is Spanish which is really easy for me, I enjoy it. My second is First Aid it allows me to learn about what to do in Emergencies. My third period is English, not a fun class but it helps me with my writing. My fourth class is math, not as enjoyable but I do need to learn it is very important. My fifth is of course media studies this year and I am very excited to continue doing great in this class and learning all about what the class to offer. My sixth period is study hall, my seventh period is AICE global perspectives which is a lot of work but also interesting. My either period is AICE marine and it is very fascinating but hard to learn. 
     I'd like to say my personality is very interesting. I am an extremely caring person and I enjoy helping people through anything, it could be to my friends, family members or even teachers. I try my best to make everyone included because it is rude to make someone feel like they are not involved. I try my best so that everyone likes me and can rely on me as a great friend, student, or daughter. I am a friendly person but sometimes I can be an introvert but I am open to meet new people.  I am a hard working student and I plan on getting all my credits to receive a diploma in the Cambridge program. I do procrastinate but I always get the job done. 
     More about me, I have many likes, for example I enjoy playing volleyball with my friends, eating almost everything, singing, dancing with my friends, drawing. To go more in depth, I started liking volleyball in the 6th grade, it always seemed to be my favorite sport. My favorite food is mac and cheese. Singing has always been fun to me and really relaxing. dancing with my friends with loud music is always the best way to let your energy out. Some of my dislikes are being dirty, people who brag, and people who are just rude or disrespectful. People who brag about things that they have in front of people who don't have is just plain rude and not attractive in a person. People who are rude and disrespectful are so gross in my opinion. Putting someone down and making them feel bad is a horrible personality trait. I prefer kind people who lift people up and just help them overall. Thank you for reading.
