Film Blog Music Video

11/25 Since my group and I have chosen our song we already have multiple ideas on what we are going to film. We have our research done and our blogs turned in up to date. Our storyboard will help us a lot when filming since most of our ideas are put on paper. For example we have our ideas on where our music video is going to take place like the beach, my group members house, and Las Olas.     We have not started on the filming process yet because we are all busy. This class is important to us but we still have other AICE classes we need to be working on to pass all our exams to get our Cambridge diploma. It is hard to all hangout out of school because each of us are busy with something different. Plus the distance between all of us is quite far but we will work on our plan. Since tomorrow is our thanksgiving break we are planning on filming throughout the break. We will be creating our music video with a group members phone and editing on her MacBook Air since we did have complications with the camcorder and Pinnacle Studios las project.
     We feel this will be more simple than how we filmed and edited last time. Im glad my group and I have all we need for our filming. We want to film as soon as we can, when we are not busy of course. My role in the project will be to focus on finding new filming spots in our settings and costumes. We are gonna look for comfy type clothing in the beginning along with bathing suits for the beach and nicer clothes since we are "going out" towards the end of the video. I want to find specific locations to go with the vibe of our chosen song. We want our video to pop since our song is a pop song that has been on the radio several times in the past. I am excited on working on this because we have great ideas for our music video. The other members in my group have other roles. My friend Jordyn is focusing on transportation and correct shots, movements, and angles in our video. Each of us split up work evenly so it is fair for all of us. My other friend Mila will be focusing on lighting in our video as well as safety.
     I have learned a lot from my past experiences with my previous project. For example I learned patience is key, not every thing goes your way the first time. It takes time to get the perfect shot, lighting or movements. That is why I have respect for the people who actually film as a career or create movies. I am getting better at working with others. I respect the people in my group who work with me. We all want to get a good grade and we all want the video to turn out the best. That is why we are putting a lot of planning into this, so once we start recording for the music video, it will go smoothly. Since we are filming and editing on our friends electronics we will most likely turn it in before its due. We will be using iMovie, it is a editing application just like Pinnacle Studios. I am looking forward for our filming process and I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

Storyboard for Music Video

11/22 For the past two class periods we have been going over and discussing our storyboard and planning. We have thought about most of the props we will include like money, make-up and food. We know where most of our settings are like the beach, our teammates home, and Las Olas. We have talked about the costumes and how we will be wearing it. Our group is still figuring out the types of lighting we will include in our video but we know for sure there will be LED and natural sunlight. We want to include natural makeup but a little extra for the end of the film when we are out on the town. Another thing that is important to our music video is camera angles, movements, and shots. For example for our first scene we will be in our group mates parent’s car and our mate’s mother will record a pan of all of us in the car including the background of the beach. We want to include high and low angles of all of us to show where we are and what we’re doing. We also want wide angles of all of us on the beach and couch hanging out and having fun. We want our video to mostly contain hand held instead of using a tripod because we want it to seem like normal teens are recording a young and fun video. For our editing we want to include jump cuts, fade in and out, dissolving to create a nice vibe throughout the video since our song is a fun summer vibe. Our sound is just the song we chose for our music video which is Slide by Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris.

Planning Music Video

11/21 For our music video, my teammates and I will have three listed locations for filming. Our group mate’s house will be used to film calmer scenes of our video. The second location, Fort Lauderdale beach, will be used to film exciting, lively scenes. These will include our group dancing and even going inside of the water. Finally, we will be filming inside of our group mate’s car. In the car we will film lively scenes, as well. We want to include fun vibrant scenery throughout the video. The scenes will feature our group dancing and listening to music, particularly the song we chose. We will be filmed inside the car, however, there may be some moments filmed of the outside of the car. We are planning to go from the car to the beach. The last scene will be taking place in Las Olas, we will have our teammates legal guardian as safety in case anything happens. We want to match the same aesthetics of the song and video and Las Olas is a great choice because it has nice stores, galleries, different types of lights, and lighting everywhere.
     Health and safety will always be number one on our priorities. We will be taking precautions to ensure our health and safety. This includes making sure we are all strong swimmers for the beach. Each of us have taken swimming lessons in the past and intend to use what we learned. We will also check the weather before arriving at the beach to make sure the weather is appropriate. If the weather is threatening, we will choose a different place to film. We are still deciding on backup places to go to film if the beach fails. To protect us from strangers or kidnappers, we will be carrying pepper spray with us. Our group mate’s legal guardian will also be joining us. We should be protected and we will take precaution when filming on the beach.
     Because we will be at the beach, we will be wearing beachwear such as sweatpants and  sunglasses. We will be wearing sweatpants because, although we do live in Florida, it has been cold lately, and we are all anemic so we need to cover up. We want to also wear fancy clothes around the end of the music video. Our props will include pretend cash, which we will be throwing around to demonstrate our wealth, despite the fact that we are not wealthy. We will lay blankets down on the beach for the video. We will also we be using our cell phones. In addition, in the house, we will use colored lights to create a “club” effect. We also will include food while at our teammates house and makeup when we are getting ready in a specific scene to go out for more fun.

Intro to Music Video

We have just finished and turned in our Nike commercial. My group liked the story boarding the most because it was an easy outline for us to plan our video. Our filming process went well and it was quick to film because we had all the footage we needed. The thing we had trouble on was the editing on Pinnacle Studios. We are planning to use iMovie for our next project because easier for us to edit. Pinnacle Studios was slow and difficult to use. For our next project we are assigned to create a music video. Today we are planning what song we will choose without group and pick ideas of what we wanna do in our music video. We learned a lot about our previous project so we are ready to make our music video better, we have enough notes to make out music video great.

  For our music video, we are doing the song Slide by Frank Ocean and Calvin Harris. It is an upbeat and happy song. We are planning to make the music video very outdoorsy and fun. We chose this song because we like that it is a happy song with a good beat. We also chose it because we believe it will be a good song to make a music video for. The genre of this song is Pop. 

   For costumes, we are going to be wearing basic, every-day clothing. We want the music video to look modern, so we are going to be wearing normal, modern clothing. For lighting, we are going to be using natural lighting. We are also going to be using color changing LED lights to add a good vibe to the music video. For actors, it is going to be me and my other two group mates. We may include a few friends from outside our group to use as background characters. We will be wearing natural makeup. The natural makeup look adds to the laid back feel of the song. For props, we will be using a car, beach supplies, and blankets. We will also use phones as props and a skateboard. For setting, we will be going to use the beach, a bedroom, and a car. We may also use other locations that we find while editing. We will be doing pan camera movements, medium close up, and tracking shots. There will be no sound because the music will be the sound for the video. We will use jump cuts to show the transition between different settings and scenes.

Editing Commercial

11/7 For our editing process we had some complications importing it to the pinnacle studios because there was a a zipper on our folder. Everything we needed to import needs a yellow check mark on it. Soon enough we figured it out and started to edit everything. We learned how to crop each clip to our liking. Once we put everything everything together we transferred it to the track and combined all of it together. It ended up being thirty seconds long so we have to crop more to put in transitions. We looked back at our notes to figure out how to add transitions. We helped eachother and decided on some transitions we are gonna use. So far it’s been two days of us editing our commercial. We were a bit confused on the transitions although we were finally able to find the perfect transitions for our commercial. 

     Then we cropped our clips to fit the required 30 seconds. Our teachers weren’t here today so we still have a few questions on the editing portion. Our group decided on finding a song to fit perfect with our commercial. We ended up with two good songs for it. Finally we took a vote and decided on one good one. We will learn how to transfer the 30 second piece of a song into our video. For our first video I think we are actually progressing well. We now know way more terms for films and videography after taking this class. We will continue to learn throughout the year. I personally like editing because you can do whatever you want. I am good at cropping so I do most of that for the editing. 

     My group members and I are impressed with the results so far. We found a good fade in transition to put in between each clip. We are trying to edit the commercial professionally so it looks good enough to be a real Nike commercial. I believe we will really like the outcome. We put a lot of work in this,  I can't wait for us to finish editing so we can enjoy the commercial. Since today was a half day we only finished the cropping and transitions. Next class we are planning to add music and text. We will continue to work hard to get the best grade we possibly can. So far this has been intriguing to make. My group and I have many more ideas in store for next class.
