As Above So Below contains unique Mise-en-scene. The costumes used in this horror film are actually pretty basic. The film just included clothes you would use on a hike. Usually, clothes that wouldn't matter if they were messed up. The location this was mostly filmed was in the catacombs beneath Paris, France. The actors that are used are regular actors that have appeared in famous films but were not appreciated enough. The make-up used were a lot of dirt and sand and dust. This was because this was mostly filmed in the catacombs and this is all underground. The main props were cameras, flashlights, and hints to solve the catacomb mysteries. The setting was different parts of the catacombs such as underground churches and strange gates.
The camera angles that are used are mostly pov, two-shots, and over the shoulder. The camera movements that are only used are pan and tilt due to readings of symbols that they look at. This film was filmed to look like someone without a high-quality camera. Some movies who do this is 'Earth to Echo.' The sound that was used was the non-diegetic sound. No other sound was used because it was supposed to look like a self-shot documentary. But there was dialogue throughout. The editing was also pretty bland too, the only effect used was cutaways. This film was based on the plot and how it was to find the treasure and the gates to hell.
The genre of this film is horror because there are unexpected elements in the catacombs. The elements that I enjoyed are the backstory of the monsters and the atmosphere because the film is dark and eerie. What I did enjoy was the possibility for a sequel because there aren't any possibilities so were stuck with one film and one film only.
